The Chingaza National Natural Park is a natural and cultural treasure in Colombia. Here lies the magic of the Andes mountains, preserving secrets and thoughts of our ancient Muisca civilization. Chingaza is a refuge for fauna and flora in an ecosystem of high Andean forest, sub-paramo, and paramo, with countless water sources that supply almost 70% of the water needed to supply more than 10 million inhabitants of Bogotá and more than 11 municipalities in Cundinamarca.

We'll depart from Bogotá very early to meet our environmental interpreter, who belongs to the communities surrounding the park and will accompany us throughout the tour of the Chingaza National Natural Park. Upon our arrival at the park, we'll have an introductory talk and learn more about its extent, fauna, flora, and ecological importance.

Then, we'll start our hike along the circuit towards the Siecha Lakes, where we'll be able to feel the tranquility of nature and have the opportunity to learn about the fauna and flora of this wonderful place. Our guide will tell us about some plant species, their characteristics, and uses. We'll also have conversations about the rural customs and stories of the Muisca communities in this territory.

We'll learn about the importance of the paramo ecosystem and enjoy a spectacular view of the Siecha Lakes from an incredible viewpoint. Additionally, we'll have the opportunity to escape the city for an adventure amidst the mountains in the Andes.

Chingaza National Natural Park

It is an extensive territory that contains one of the main water sources supplying water to a large part of Bogotá. We will explore the lush mountains of this beautiful natural park. We will travel to the Monteredondo refuge, where we will begin a 4-hour hiking adventure to have a unique contact with the paramo ecosystem.

Circuit Trail to Buitrago Lagoons and Siecha Blades

We will be able to contemplate the magic of the paramo in its entirety along with 3 glacial origin lagoons, from the first of which the Muisca raft, representing the El Dorado ceremony, was plundered.

This beautiful municipality will give us access to the Natural Park, located in Cundinamarca and just a few hours from Bogotá.

The minimum age for this route is 10 years.
Pets are not allowed on this journey due to being a natural reserve area.
According to the regulations of the National Parks, the entry of single-use plastic into the park is prohibited.

😷 Bring your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Kit (face masks, hand sanitizer gel or alcohol spray, disposable tissues, bag for personal waste disposal).

💦 This trail is in a paramo ecosystem, so there may be rain and humidity. Please don't forget to bring a change of clothes for after the hike. Avoid wearing jeans or cotton clothing; preferably, wear quick-drying garments.

🥾 We'll hike through rocky and wet terrain. Wear shoes that can get wet, boots, or footwear with a good grip sole and ankle protection is ideal. Avoid wearing Converse-style sneakers or ballet flats. Don't wear new shoes on these outings.

🧢 Bring a hat or cap, sunscreen.

💊 Bring your medications and personal documents (medical insurance card and ID).

🎒 Use a two-strap ergonomic backpack to carry on your back.

How to know if this plan is for you?

This trail is level 3 (medium). It covers a distance of 7 km in a paramo ecosystem above 3,700 meters above sea level, with the possibility of rain and wind. The terrain has several ascending points with wet and muddy soil. This route poses some physical challenges; you don't need experience, but it's important to engage in some exercise during the week.

What about the meals?

We recommend having breakfast before or bringing it to consume before the hike. We'll make a stop before the hike for those who wish to have breakfast.
